What’s the (meal) plan, Stan?

March 28-April 2 Meal Plan

Liam has asked me, “What’s the plan, Stan?” since before we had kids. I assume it came from some childhood TV show or, perhaps, just a childhood trauma (jk). However, I thought I would share our supper plans. It’ll keep me accountable about meal planning. It might also spark a few ideas. Hopefully, a few of you will post your plans too!

I’ve decided to post the previous week’s plan, along with what we actually ate. That way you’ll get a realistic view. Our lives are a little chaotic at the moment, and I can’t always foresee the hijinks.

I’ll also post who did the cooking. With work/school schedules, we all have ‘assigned’ cooking nights. All except Liam, that is. He helps tons around the house, but he hates cooking and we hate eating his food. So he gets a pass on this one. (However, he is responsible for bugs, things that go bump in the attic, and assorted cleaning tasks.

Let’s set Liam’s cooking aside, (Believe me, it is for the best.), and get to the plan.:

  • A-Anne
  • J-Jonah
  • S-Sam
  • G-Grace
  • L-Nope!

3/27 Sunday: S-Quesadillas.

This is a standard quick meal for us. I honestly don’t know if he made a ground beef or home-canned chicken version. We were at work, and Grace was out of town. So, it was a guys-only night.

3/28 Monday: J-quiche.

There was a bit of a miscommunication with this. I was at work, and Grace was at a grandparent’s house. I left instructions for Jonah, who didn’t need them but tried to follow them anyway.

  • I left a ratio of egg to milk. He thought it was the total volume needed.
  • He couldn’t find the ham in the deep freezer (it was in the fridge).
  • He misread the amount of pepper needed.

The result was a meatless half-inch thick quiche with enough black pepper to set the world to sneezing. I’ve clarified things and he will be trying again this week. (Side note: Jonah sweetly packed our lunches for work. So, we each had the above to fuel us for a 13-hour shift 🤮.)

3/29 Tuesday: A-Creamy Chicken Stew over rice.

This was a tasty new recipe from the BBC. I added a little parmesan and thyme. I also thickened it with cornstarch. This was voted as a make again with the modifications.

3/30 Wednesday: A-Chorizo Chicken Ragu over leftover rice re-steamed.

This was a tasty new recipe, but it was from the BBC. In Texas, we like things a little spicy. So, I added some additional paprika and cayenne. I also added some tomato paste for body. It is recommended over potatoes, but we decided to use the leftover rice. This was unanimously voted as a make again with the modifications.

3/31 Thursday: I made fish cakes, tinned veg, and garlic dill baby potatoes. This is a standard quickie-ish meal.

Grace was scheduled to make a meat pie, but there was a kerfuffle.

4/1 Friday: G-Special celebration-cheese plate, charcuterie board, chantilly cake (fantastic!)

4/2 Saturday: This was a foraging night.

Liam and I were at work. We took packed leftovers and the kids either had sandwiches or duked it out for the best leftovers.

Please share your meal plans or favorite dinners if you like. We’re always on the hunt for tasty new ideas! Have a wonderful and tasty week, y’all!
