If the characters from Little House on the Prairie were unexpectedly dropped into an episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, it would look a lot like our life. We even have a rabid attack rabbit named, Monty.
We’re a family of five living on a small farm in Northeast Texas. Liam and I are both pediatric nurses. Our ‘kids’ range in age from seventeen to twenty-three. The younger two are finishing their last year of homeschool, while the other is a part-time farm hand and full-time college student.
We try to live as frugally and self-sufficiently as possible. Our choices are triggered not by fear, but because we enjoy it! Although it is great to know we’re prepared for many emergencies.
We raise most of our meat, some of our vegetables, and not enough of our fruit. We keep a heavily stocked pantry. A couple of us enjoy cooking and canning, but we all love to eat. We take pride in putting food on the table that originated on our property!
